Manufacturing Process
Zinc sulphate is a colorless crystalline, water-soluble chemical compound. It is prepared by reacting zinc with light aqueous sulfuric acid, another ways of preparation is by heating zinc sulphide or in air and dissolving out and recrystallizing the Sulphate, third method includes addition of solid zinc to a Copper Sulphate solution, copper will get replaced by zinc (Zn+CuSO4→ZnSO4+Cu). It occurs naturally as the mineral goslarite, and can be prepared by reacting zinc with sulfuric acid. The crystalline sulfate is known commonly as white vitriol.
Application
Production of Ryon fibre (In Coagulation baths for Rayon), Micronutrient in fertilisers , Agriculture sprays, , Animal feed, Production of paint and varnishes, glues, Zinc Sterate and Zinc-Alkyl-di-thiocarbamate (Fungicide), Rubber As accelerator, Titane Dioxide, Flotation of ores, Electroplating and surface treatment
Other uses includes electrolytes for zinc plating, used as a mordant in dyeing, as a preservative for skins and leather and as an astringent and emetic in medicine.
An aqueous solution of zinc sulfate is considered to be effective at removing moss from flooring and roofs.
